Spring Term 2024 (Formerly known as Winter Semester) classes begin on Saturday, February 3, 2024. All classes are offered in-person at Ypsilanti Community Middle School. Address: 510 Emerick Street. Ypsilanti, MI 48198. There are no classes on February 17 or March 30 due to scheduled breaks.

Dear Ypsilanti Youth Orchestra Families,
The first day of Spring Term is Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Ypsilanti Community Middle School (510 Emerick Street, Ypsilanti). Our staff is working hard to prepare for a smooth transition back to classes. This email outlines what to expect on the first day of the term, opportunities for family involvement, and links to important forms and resources.

Course Offerings & Class Schedules

  • All the classes for Spring Term are the same classes offered during the Fall 2023 term.

  • Please assume that the Spring Term classes will occur at the same times as they did during the Fall Term. If your class time changes, YYO will notify families via email before the start of classes.

Family Involvement

  • We ask that a parent or guardian attend class with their beginner students, sitting with the students and engaging with them as they participate in class.

  • Parents/Guardians who have more than one student in YYO classes may rotate between their students’ classes.

First Day of Classes & Attendance

  • Students should report directly to classes. Please arrive a few minutes before your first class is scheduled to begin to get settled before class begins.

  • A YYO staff member will be available at the Main Entrance to assist families with questions or concerns. 

  • Instructors will take attendance in class. Please report all absences to the Absence Notification Form to receive an excused absence. 

Track Scheduling and  Requests for Schedule Changes

  • If a student is not able to participate regularly in one or more of their classes due to scheduling conflicts or other reasons, we ask that you complete our Schedule Change/Withdrawal Form. 

  • Families who would like their child to move to a different class should contact their class instructor. Students may join an available class with approval from the instructor of the class that they would like to join.

Mid-Year Admissions and Waitlists

  • Our waitlist is OPEN. Families interested in joining YYO for the Spring 2024 Term may complete the Waitlist Form HERE. 

  • After 12 noon on  February 10, we will invite families from our waitlist to join classes available to new students.
